General Debt per Child was $279,140USD last year – solid 7th place if you are comparing. With the Feds (and Provinces) setting deficit records, let's peek ahead!
Debt per Child (D/C) is General Government (Fed, Provinces) gross debt per child < 15 years (or last birthday 14 or under).
Federally: There are 6,038,647 such people in Canada. Let's use the latest estimated Federal Debt this year - $1,744 Billion with Crown Corp debt (EDC, CHMC, etc.) which seems to be missing from last years calculation of D/C!
That's $289,000CAD each.
Canada is the Sub-National debt world champion though so let's add Provinces but individually.
Ontario's $400B debt (March 2021) for 2,278,617 kids is $175,545. Federal and Provincial Debt per Child in Ontario Canada is $464,350.
Quebec = $452,273
Alberta = $406,821
Nova Scotia = $409,662
New Brunswick - $469,052
Saskatchewan = $394,365
Newfoundland = $523,406
($16.4B, 69,964 kids)
“Just” debt. Not included in D/C: Pension Obligations and unfunded obligations like the Older Adult Scam (OAS), Health Care, etc.
Big caution - worst year ever to peek ahead! Deficits being revised often. Federal Bailouts and lock downs are changing weekly. Bank of Canada supporting Provinces - a first! I will update D/C by Province in Spring.
Maybe lock downs will increase denominator! With immigration down though, that's a lot of busy.
Immoral acts (like stealing children's future earnings) are, understandably, minimized by perpetrators. With government debt, this often involves a comparison to the worst offender. I trust you will hear a lot of “at least we're not Newfoundland” this year as your Country and Province's D/C rises dramatically.
